The Grade 2 * listing placed stringent restrictions on what could be done, which had to be accommodated within the design. For example, fixing to the original roof timbers and stone work was forbidden. ODAPS developed a design which achieved the clients requirements without affecting the original fabric of the building. Working with The Listed Building Department and English Heritage ODAPs developed the design and obtained Listed Building Consent for the proposal.
To achieve the light and modern feel, maximum use was made of full height frameless glass partitioning, including glass doors. This in conjunction with false beams and self- supporting suspended ceilings allowed minimum disturbance to the existing structure. Some well thought out manifestation and feature vinyl flooring helped create the visual effects. A contemporary breakout area with curved walls was part of the design.
ODAPS supplied and installed white bench desking with integrated cable management and white leg frames throughout the scheme. The recessed leg frames to the bench desks allowed maximum use of space by numbers of staff as the legs did not restrict where people could sit.White leather chairs in the boardroom and stand-alone LED TV stands retained the sleek modern look. All cables from the video conferencing and AV installations were kept hidden from view and wired directly into the desk cable management.
The project was delivered on time and within budget. The client was more than happy with the look and functionality of the office which it was left fully compliant with current legislation and the requirements of The Listed Building Department and English Heritage.
