Office Refurbishment Case Study
(Backup Technology - Thorpe Park, Leeds)
Backup Technology are the world's leading Online Backup & Disaster Recovery provider. Due to rapid year on year growth, and dealing with blue chip companies including several premiership football clubs, they required a re-design of their offices to raise their company profile and reflect the prestige they have within the industry. Consequently they appointed ODAPS to undertake the design, fitting out and furnishing of their office.

The brief called for the ground floor to be redeveloped into a reception area with main open plan office area and a break out area. The first floor was to be developed into disaster recovery suites for use by clients, with the flexibility to cater for different sized companies as the need arose. There was also the need for a boardroom and IT server room. In detail, the design had to create a fresh modern and professional environment into which Backup Technology would be proud to invite their clients.
To achieve this, and create a light and modern feel, maximum use was made of full height frameless glass partitioning, incorporating glass doors, to the fronts of the first floor. The disaster recovery suites were located adjacent to each other, and by using a combination of link doors and easily re-locatable partitions between them, full flexibility was retained to cater for different sized companies.
ODAPS also specified bench seating to these suites, with integrated cable management to make the rapid setting up of computers and other technology an easy task. The recessed leg frames to the bench desks allowed maximum use of space by members of staff as the legs did not restrict where people could sit.
The ground floor was already partitioned into individual offices. This was stripped out and the separate reception area created using a combination of traditional stud partitions and full height glazed partitions, again incorporating full height glass doors. Maple feature flooring was used to complement a maple reception desk, and a drop down bulkhead fitted over to enhance the overall appearance.
Backup Technology remained on site during the works, and ODAPS phased the works and relocated staff as necessary to be able to complete the works with minimum disruption to their business activities. The completed project exceeded the client's expectations and was achieved on time and within budget.
